In the last fifteen years, progress has been made in our knowledge about the causes of bad dental alignment, which can be divided into three large domains: skeletal, muscular (functional) and purely dental.

This knowledge, if well used, allows us to be more precise and more efficient in the selection or in the combined use of the traditional treatment towards the age of 12 (with braces) and a new treatment with a multitude of functional devices, which can be combined.

This combination between the traditional treatments and the new therapeutic techniques permits to achieve a considerable double advantage for the patient (and her or his parents).

• The most difficult work (skeletal correction and correcting the bad muscular habits) is performed at an age when the bone is more flexible. Therefore, the results are faster and more stable.

• The time of wearing the braces was considerably reduced: for about 50% of the young patients, a second phase of finishing will be necessary after 12 years, but at that time, the wearing of the braces will generally take one year, no more.

Finally, what is essential in the good choice for every patient is the study of the skeletal, functional (muscular) and dental components and planning of a clear and precise work strategy, for every one of the three levels.

For this reason we use, explain and commit ourselves to each treatment with a treatment plan, which distinguishes every action at every level by a different color: Pink is for the actions and the time needed to correct the skeletal base, blue is for the functions and the correction of the bad muscular habits, and green is for the traditional dental alignment (with a considerable reduction of the time needed for wearing the braces).
